The Sénanque Abbey was built in the 12th century for Cistercian monks.  I was attracted to the architectural splendor, but also to witness a way of life that continues to this day. The monks who still live and worship here still plant and cultivate lavender.

Haystack Rock is a 235 foot monolith formed millions of year ago by lava flows that created many of the dramatic capes and headlands along the Oregon Coast. Haystack Rock is home to nesting seabirds in the summer.  As a child, I could hardly wait for low tide, for I was enamored with the with starfish and anemones that filled the tidepools at the base of the Rock.

My desire to clothe myself in fine art inspired the design of this scarf using my original watercolor, “Vernazza, Cinque Terre”.   The colors of this beautiful Italian town float down the 72" length.  I visited Cinque Terre, Italy on a recent vacation and was inspired by the beauty I found around every corner there.

Vernazza's small harbor guards what is the quaintest and steepest, of the five villages. Lined with little cafes, a main cobbled street and side streets that lead to the village's trademark Genoa-style caruggi (narrow lanes), where sea views pop at every turn.

The colors of the sunset and the sea ripple and glow along the length of the scarf above the slender spires of Mont Saint Michel towering over sands laid bare by the receding tide.

A magical island topped by a gravity-defying medieval monastery, the Mont-Saint-Michel is a glorious sight. Both the abbey and the narrow alleys below transport me back to the Middle Ages.

The colors of a winter’s sky glow along the length of the scarf.  Below is Crater Lake’s gloriously blue water surrounded by the Cascade Mountain Range.  Oregon’s only National Park, Crater Lake has inspired awe in me since I was a child.  It’s the deepest lake in the United States, and perhaps the most pristine on earth.

The colors of a lavender sunset on the Columbia Gorge ripple and glow along the length of the scarf.  Below is Vista House, built in 1917 on one of the most beautiful scenic points on the Historic Columbia River Highway.  My grandmother saved her pennies, along with her classmates, to raise funds to erect this national landmark. This painting was juried into the 2018 Fall Art Show of the Watercolor Society of Oregon.
