About Me

My photo
For Laurie Martin-Cohn, “home” is both here in Oregon and half a world away. Her paintings capture not only the beauty of Oregon, but also take us to the romantic landscapes of her French and Mediterranean ancestry. We see dreamy clouds framing sun washed cities and terra cotta roofs above the shadowed angles of old stone buildings. The magic of her paintbrush pulls these two worlds together for us. It wasn’t always so. Laurie spent 23 years as a high school theatre instructor. Immersing herself in European art and history, something new emerged.. The subtle overtones of Laurie’s paintings tell her unique story while inviting us to explore ours. Laurie’s work has been juried into numerous shows, including those sponsored by Watercolor Society of Oregon. You can see more of Laurie’s work at Spiral Gallery in Estacada, and Three Rivers Gallery in Oregon City. To order her paintings, email lmartcohn@gmail.com.

Richarnau 15” x 9.6” $500

Richarnau 15” x 9.6” $500

Nestled in lavender fields of Aurel, Provence is the enchanting B & B Richarnau, where we awoke each morning to a sea of purple waves of dreamlike flowers  and then breakfasted under what our hosts called “ze lime tree” on sweet tea and toasted baguette.

Yaquina Head Light Lighthouse 11” x 14” $500

Yaquina Head Light Lighthouse

11” x 14”

$500

A silent and majestic sentinel, Yaquina Head Light Lighthouse stands watch over offshore fishing boats and nesting seabirds at Yaquina Head, Oregon.  We love the short hike to Oregon’s only remaining wooden lighthouse.

Venice, 11” x 14”, $500

Venice

11” x 14”

$500

Venice charms me. I get lost in the myriad cobblestoned alleyways and delight in discovering a bridge over the reflective waters of a canal.  I adore the colored buildings in Murano, too, so I used them in painting this scene.

Crosswater, Oregon 11” X 14”, $500

 Crosswater, Oregon

11” X 14”

The colors of of the high desert sky glow the bluest blue. Mount Bachelor, Three Sisters and the Deschutes River lie below. I love Oregon’s high desert country.  The mornings are cool and crisp. The smell of juniper fills the air. When the sun comes out so we can ride bikes and golf, and in the evening we watch the stars.

Notre Amour, 15" x 9.5", $500.

Notre Amour

15" x 9.5"

$500.

I dreamt of someday walking along the Seine with the love of my life from the time I watched Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire in Funny Face in the 1960s.  The dream came true when John and I visited the City of Lights in 1993.  And, oh, the dream far exceeded reality!  Paris is indeed for lovers.  The painting is a composite of my fantasy and the beautiful reality of our stroll on the banks of the “Paris Canal”.
