About Me

My photo
For Laurie Martin-Cohn, “home” is both here in Oregon and half a world away. Her paintings capture not only the beauty of Oregon, but also take us to the romantic landscapes of her French and Mediterranean ancestry. We see dreamy clouds framing sun washed cities and terra cotta roofs above the shadowed angles of old stone buildings. The magic of her paintbrush pulls these two worlds together for us. It wasn’t always so. Laurie spent 23 years as a high school theatre instructor. Immersing herself in European art and history, something new emerged.. The subtle overtones of Laurie’s paintings tell her unique story while inviting us to explore ours. Laurie’s work has been juried into numerous shows, including those sponsored by Watercolor Society of Oregon. You can see more of Laurie’s work at Spiral Gallery in Estacada, and Three Rivers Gallery in Oregon City. To order her paintings, email lmartcohn@gmail.com.

"Yaquina Bay Bridge at Sunset", Mixed Media Print,11" x 14" $95

"Yaquina Bay Bridge at Sunset", Mixed Media Print,11" x 14" $95Newport, Oregon is art galleries, sea lions, and the Yaquina Bay Bridge.  The Pacific Ocean's sunsets rival any I've seen, and the Yaquina Bay Bridge in silhouette was a great inspiration. The bridge crosses Yaquina Bay estuary, and has framed many an Oregon coast sunset since its opening in 1936, during the Great Depression. Designer Conde McCullough used Art Deco and Art Moderne design motifs as well as forms borrowed from Gothic architecture. The Gothic influence is seen in the balustrade, which features small pointed arches, and in the arches of the side span piers.Newport, Oregon is art galleries, sea lions, and the Yaquina Bay Bridge.
